Tree Removal Cost

There are five things to consider when estimating tree removal cost. The cost also depends on how much the tree removal service charges. You are given an estimate according to where the tree is located, width, height, how many branches and how close the tree is to utility lines, buildings, fences, or other obstructions.

Size

The first consideration is the size of the tree to calculate tree removal cost. A small tree is one-fourth to one foot in width and up to 25 ft. tall. If the cost per foot is $8.00, this tree can be removed for approximately $200.00. Small trees can be Black Mulberry, Dogwood or Russian Olive.

A tree that is 1 to 2 feet wide and 25 to 50 feet tall is considered a medium size tree. At $9.00 per foot, it would cost up to $450 to remove the tree. The Black Alder, Black Gum, and Crabapple are considered to be medium size trees.

A large tree is 2 to 4 feet wide and 55 to 90+ feet tall. When calculated at $10.00 per foot, you will spend up to $900 to remove the tree.

Extras

The tree removal cost will increase depending on its proximity to other obstructions. Some trees can’t be just cut down but must be “roped down.” A rope is tied around the part of the tree that is cut and then lowered to the ground. This will require an additional charge as a hazardous tree removal. This process also uses a cherry picker to reach the top of the tree. You can look to pay $200 to $300 dollars more.

If you wish the stump to be removed, it will need to be ground into sawdust. Large stumps can average $170 to $300. Small stumps start at $75.

You can expect branches and other debris from the tree removal to be cleared by the company, but larger pieces are not included. If you wish to have all of the tree removed, it may cost up to $350 for the company to haul away the trunk of a 30-foot tree.

Tree removal cost for chipping the branches may cost $65 to $150 per hour and some crews charge $50 to haul away the chips.

Any crew that must travel will charge for travel time and mileage.

You will need to check city codes before removing the tree whether it’s on the street or on your property. Some trees are protected by law.
